Sue Scheff: Off the Subject a bit

While I was at my Publishers office last week, I picked up a book there that cracked me up - and as a divorced parent, I found it so refreshing and a satire of life.

Honestly - it has nothing to do with parenting, but I just have to share it for anyone that may be newly divorced or struggling recovering from one.

Sue Scheff Book Reviews: Smashed: Story of a Drunken Girlhood

Smashed: Story of a Drunken Girlhood by Koren Zailckas.

Zailckas tells of her life as an extreme drinker from the age of 14 until 23. Then she stops drinking and starts writing this work about her life while drinking. She describes her drinking, lack of self-image and self-respect, depression, and delinquency. Zailckas almost romanticizes the experience of extreme drinking and the social and physical problems it causes. Ellen Archer takes the narrative and reads it smoothly as though she is not disturbed by the content. Her pronunciation of polysyllabic words is jarring as are the changes in volume throughout the narrative. Smashed can be a wake-up call to talk to your children and pay attention to what they do, or just another "poor pitiful me" book.

Sue Scheff Book Review - A Relentless Hope - Surviving the Storm of Teen Depression

Over the years since I have created my organization, Parents Universal Resource Experts (PURE), I have been sent books by authors regarding teens.

I will start sharing some of them with you and maybe you will also find them of interest.

I recently received and read "A Relentless Hope - Surviving the Storm of Teen Depression" by Gary E. Nelson - and was impressed with the author and his ability to bring his own experiences to the pages as well as educate parents on Teen Depression.

The book is not a long yet very interesting and extremely informative!
